David Cameron launched FreightShip in 2010 as a way of making Britain an international freight hub.

The freight industry has paid the price for successive governments ignoring Britain's shipbuilding sector for so long. This investment and the need to move goods around the continent is going to be the biggest driver of growth for the UK shipbuilding industry.


The UK is the largest freight port in Europe. Our relationship with the continent depends on delivering a level of infrastructure that allows businesses in Europe to use Britain as an export hub.

Under a fair deal for Britain, the EU would build a highly competitive and attractive freight sector. That's in the national interest, and it will allow Britain to continue to build stronger relationships with Europe's key trading partners, delivering the benefits of Brexit to all Britain's citizens.
